No. 10 Alabama Pulls Away Late From USF For Uncomfortable 17-3 Win

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 10 Alabama struggled offensively but came away with a 17-3 win over USF on Saturday in a game that was much closer than the score indicates.

The Crimson Tide started Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner at quarterback, but he was pulled after just 14 pass attempts and 34 yards. Redshirt freshman Ty Simpson took over and led Alabama on a touchdown drive in the third quarter.

Alabama's defense was the star of the show, holding USF to just 207 total yards. The Bulls did not cross midfield until the fourth quarter.

Alabama's Offense Struggles

Alabama's offense has been inconsistent all season, and that continued against USF. The Crimson Tide finished with just 334 total yards, and they averaged just 3.9 yards per play.

Simpson was the only Alabama quarterback to have any success passing the ball. He completed 10 of 14 passes for 106 yards. The Crimson Tide's running game was also anemic, rushing for just 128 yards on 37 carries.

Alabama's Defense Dominates

Alabama's defense was the lone bright spot for the Crimson Tide on Saturday. They held USF to just 207 total yards and forced two turnovers.

Linebacker Will Anderson Jr. was the star of the defense, recording 10 tackles, including two for loss. He also had a sack and forced a fumble.

What's Next?

Alabama will now turn its attention to SEC play. The Crimson Tide will travel to Oxford, Mississippi next week to face No. 1 Georgia.

USF will also start SEC play next week. The Bulls will travel to Gainesville, Florida to face the Florida Gators.
